Experience the rich tones of a Dusty Strings hammered dulcimer with the convenience of your iPhone or iPad. Play directly on your screen or connect via MIDI from other apps or a MIDI keyboard.
The app features the treble and bass bridges of Dusty Strings' flagship D550 model, offering a full 3.75 octave chromatic range from G2 to E6 during MIDI play. This 16/15 configuration includes 16 string courses on the treble bridge and 15 courses on the bass bridge.
Manufactured in Seattle, WA since 1979, Dusty Strings is renowned for its Chromatic Series hammered dulcimers.
To produce sounds, simply touch the strings adjacent to the black and white bridge markers. Depending on your preference, switch between a bright, ringing tone with hard hammers and a softer, more piano-like sound with soft hammers located in the top left corner.
Create repeated note "drag roll" effects by swiftly moving your finger horizontally across the strings — adjust sensitivity levels in the settings screen for optimal control.
Toggle the note name display and fine-tune audio settings from the controls screen where you can adjust balance, enable or disable drag rolls, and set drag sensitivity. Customizations include choosing visibility options for hammer touches and soft hammer equalization for various output sources.
For MIDI usage, select the MIDI channel and control all functions through MIDI note-on, note-off, volume change messages, ensuring full compatibility with CoreMIDI-enabled apps and external MIDI keyboards.
Utilize the app as a MIDI sound module with other apps like "Sweet MIDI Player" by configuring settings to match output MIDI channels. For on-screen play resembling the complete D550 instrument including the "SuperBass" bridge, refer to the "Dusty Strings" iPad app on the App Store.
